Install on iPhone or iPad

Install ChoreRally before you set up your family. On iPhone and iPad the Home Screen app keeps its own storage, separate from Safari, and Safari can clear data for websites you haven't used for 7 days.

1. Open your private link from START HERE in Safari (not a private tab).
2. Tap Share. If it isn't in the toolbar, tap ⋯ first.
3. Choose Add to Home Screen (under View More if you don't see it), then Add.
4. Open ChoreRally from your Home Screen and set up your family there.

Chrome on iPhone works the same way: tap Share in the address bar, then Add to Home Screen.

If the Home Screen app shows the ChoreRally product page, paste your private link into the box at the bottom of that page and tap Open ChoreRally.

Install on Android

1. Open your private link from START HERE in Chrome.
2. Tap Chrome's menu ⋮, then Install (it may say Add to Home screen or Install app), then Install again.
3. Open ChoreRally from its icon on your Home screen.

Install on a Windows, Mac or ChromeOS computer

• Chrome or Edge: open your private link, then choose Install in the address bar. ChoreRally opens in its own window and can be pinned to the taskbar or Dock.
• Safari on a Mac: open your private link, then choose File › Add to Dock.
• Firefox: can't install apps. ChoreRally works fully in a normal tab; bookmark it.

Open ChoreRally with your private link

1. Open START HERE.pdf from your Etsy download and tap Open ChoreRally.
2. Use your normal browser, not a private or incognito window: ChoreRally keeps your family in ordinary browser storage.
3. Afterwards ChoreRally opens at chorerally.jykdigital.com without the link. Keep the PDF in case you ever need the link again.

Your link is just for you: please don't share it or post it online. The rest of your family doesn't need it: their devices join with a code.

Set up your family

1. Choose Set up my family.
2. Name your family, then choose a four-digit parent PIN and write the recovery code down. The PIN keeps the kids out of the parent view; it is a lock for a family, not a security system.
3. Add your kids, choose what chores earn, and tick a few starter chores for each child.
4. Say where the kids do their chores: on this device, on another shared tablet, or on their own phones. You can link those devices now or later.

Every answer can be changed later, in Kids, Chores and Settings. Inside the app, More, then Help explains approvals, the score, rewards, money and printing, and works offline.

See the sample family

The free demo, linked from the ChoreRally home page, opens a sample family in the middle of their week. Tap a child's picture to see their chart, or Try parent view to approve chores and look around. What you change stays in your browser until you choose Reset sample, and never touches your own family.

Use ChoreRally on more than one device

1. On a parent device, open More, then Devices, and choose Link a device.
2. Say who the new device is for: another parent, a shared family screen, or one child. A QR code and a join code appear; they work for 10 minutes.
3. On the new device, scan the QR code with the camera. No private link is needed. Or type the code.
4. Both devices show four words. If they are the same, choose They match — link it on the parent device.
5. From then on, changes made on one device reach the others when they are online.

A child's own device holds only that child's chores and the game: never the parent view, the PIN, or a brother's or sister's chores and balances. Its standings are as fresh as its last sync.

Your family's records are encrypted on your devices before they leave them, and only your linked devices can read them. The sync service can tell how many devices are linked, which are a child's and when they sync, never a name, a chore or an amount. Nobody can recover the records for you, so linking isn't a backup: keep saving a backup file now and then.

To remove a device, open Devices, open the device's menu and choose Unlink. Unlinking stops its syncing; it does not erase a device that stays offline. Clear that one in its own Settings.

Join a family on a new device

1. Ask a parent to open Devices and choose Link a device on their own device.
2. Scan the QR code it shows. Or open chorerally.jykdigital.com, choose Join a family at the bottom of the page, and type the 8-character join code.
3. Check that both devices show the same four words. The parent then confirms on their device.
4. The family opens on this device.

On an iPhone or iPad, add ChoreRally to the Home Screen first, open it from there, and type the join code in the Home Screen app. The Home Screen app keeps its own storage, separate from Safari.

A code that has expired or was used once can't be used again: ask the parent for a new one.

Print a chore chart

1. In the parent view, open More, then Print.
2. Choose a chart: My week (one child, seven days), Family week, Routine chart, Reward chart, Blank chart or Certificate.
3. Choose the child and the week, A4 or US Letter, and Colour or Ink-saving. The page shows as it will print.
4. Choose Print, then your printer, or your device's Save as PDF.

The charts are filled in with your family's own chores and pictures. Ticks made on paper do not reach the app: enter them in the parent view.

Back up your family

1. In the parent view, open More, then Backup, and choose Save a backup file. The file holds your whole family, pictures included.
2. Keep the .crbackup file somewhere other than this device, such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.
3. Save a new one after a while. ChoreRally reminds you when there are changes no file holds.

Anyone with the file can read your family's records. Protect with a passphrase seals the file: nobody can open it without the passphrase, and nobody, us included, can recover a forgotten one. The parent PIN is never in a backup file.

Syncing devices is not a backup: a change or a deletion on one device reaches the others.

Move to a new device or to the installed app

1. On the old device (or in Safari), save a backup file.
2. On the new device (or in the installed app), open ChoreRally with your private link.
3. Choose Restore from a file and pick the file. ChoreRally checks it and shows what's inside before anything changes.
4. Choose a new parent PIN. The restored family starts on this device alone: link your other devices again.

Restoring replaces what is on the device; nothing is merged. Want to keep using both devices? Link them instead, and they stay up to date.

I see the ChoreRally product page instead of my family

This browser hasn't been unlocked yet, or its cookies were cleared. Open your private link from START HERE again, or paste it into the box at the bottom of the product page. Your family is still in this browser's storage; opening the link brings it back.

On a device that joined with a code (a child's phone, a shared tablet), a parent opens the same private link on that device once. It opens the family the device already joined; nothing has to be linked again. If the device's browsing data was cleared as well, the family is no longer on it: join with a new code, then unlink the device's old entry under More, then Devices on a parent device.
